Ah yes, Sin City. I live here. Somewhat by choice and somewhat by circumstance. It is a large hot dry city spread out in the middle of the Mojave Desert covered in concrete and asphalt. The streets run straight forming a grid from one end of the valley to the other, while every home and business is cut from a mold and placed in a replicating fashion within the blocks between the roads. The traffic is terrible, the drivers rude and the economy crap. Where I live, close to the edge of the city, half built neighborhoods are the norm and every other home lies vacant and in disrepair. Who would not want to escape this?
I’ve spent a total of 15 years traipsing around the arid landscapes of the southwest pushing myself to find out just what is over that next ridge. I play out my passions which include hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, backcountry cooking and whiskey on a somewhat regular basis. Trying to do something at least once a week. I operate on a very modest budget and mostly remain within an hours drive from my house. The small unnamed peaks, desert washes and penetrating roads that lay in abundance with no access restrictions are my specialty.
TL;DR This blog should focus on hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, backcountry cooking and whiskey, while tying together the surrounding landscapes around Las Vegas with a locals perspective.
Thanks for reading!
Nice blog and great photos.
Thanks! Believe it or not, I’ve actually hiked with you before. Which I’m sure you can believe, seeing as you’ve hiked with many a people over the years.
That’s funny. Which hike was it?
I think I’ve done Rainbow Mtn and Juniper Peak with you and a group. It was at least 10 years ago. My dad Steve was with us as well.
Since joining WP back in Nov/Dec 2011 when I come across anyone blogging about or mentioning my home town and surrounding area[Glacier Nat’l Park] it continually makes me realize what a small world it is. Not to mention the fact I am chatting with people from around the world and my stats show clicks from 17 different countries.[holy shit] I am in awe of how WP connects. I am continually looking for artists and photographers to connect with. It was great browsing your blog and based on what I have seen and read you may be interest in what I’m doing up here in Northern Nevada. check out

I reside in Reno and wonder why quite often but the more I get out and photograph the landscape I realize how much beauty there is beyond Reno.

Very true. I’m just starting to realize that myself. I look forward to checking out what your doing, thanks!
I visited the “red centre” of my own country (Australia) a few years ago and loved it. Unfortunately I live far away from the desert but can’t wait to go back some day. Excellent blog and photos.
Very cool, I wish you luck. Thanks!
